Areas of Practice

Florence Gibson called to the Bar in June 2026 as the Faculty Scholar. She has a particular interest in family law.

Prior to calling to the Bar, Florence trained with a highly regarded specialist family law firm in Edinburgh. She gained high-grade experience across a range of private family law disputes, with particular focus on Court of Session litigation.

Florence was involved in actions dealing with financial provision on the breakdown of adult relationships. She also worked on notably challenging relocation and residence/contact actions, including those where a curator ad litem had been appointed by the Court. Florence has experience of working with high-net-worth individuals, where the family law issues – whether relating to property or children – are frequently complicated, multi-jurisdictional or multi-disciplinary.

During devilling, in addition to gaining further experience in family law, Florence spent some time in complementary areas of practice including commercial, property and public law, as well as criminal law.

With a strong interest in the development of Scots private and family law, Florence is a contributing editor to Butterworths Scottish Family Law Service, a regular contributor to Greens Family Law Bulletin, and has tutored, presented and provided research assistance across a range of practice areas.
