CHAS: Helping children and families over the Christmas period

janemorrisonNews

CHAS reports that December was their busiest month to date in the virtual hospice, reaching 219 families!

Rachael McDonald from CHAS says “We also welcomed 618 children and their families to a virtual event ensuring that families feel supported at a difficult time of year with fun, inclusive and engaging activities!”

The Chas at Home team was hard at work undertaking over 270 homecare visits including Christmas Day; offering overnight care for families in their own homes as well as working in partnership with NHS and Marie Curie to provide end of life care at home.

At the hospices, CHAS delivered 111 bed nights and in hospitals, and supported early discharge, linking in with Chas at Home teams to allow children to spend Christmas at home. They also introduced a new bereavement service which families explained had helped them build resilience and enable them to feel empowered to cope with the death of their child at a difficult time of year.

Westwater Advocates are pleased to have supported the amazing work of CHAS in helping children and families.
