Janys Scott QC is in action next week, challenging closure of churches. On 8 January 2021 the Scottish Government passed regulations requiring all churches in mainland Scotland to close their doors to worshippers. Last month 27 church leaders came forward to challenge the closures. All are prepared to operate under strict regulations designed to prevent transmission of coronavirus, but they maintain it is beyond the powers of the Government to stop communal worship altogether. The action is supported by Christian Concern.
A few days ago the court permitted a latecomer to the action, Canon Thomas White, represented by Aidan O’Neill QC.
The case is to be heard in the Court of Session on 11 and 12 March
