Michael called to the bar in 2022. The primary focus of his practice is employment and equalities law, along with contract, public & administrative law, human rights, criminal, professional discipline, and housing.
Michael’s specialism in employment and equalities law has made him a regular figure in the civil courts, the Employment Tribunal, the Employment Appeal Tribunal and the Inner House. He is instructed in cases across the entire spectrum of employment and equalities law, including unfair dismissal, TUPE, whistleblowing, Health & Safety detriment, fixed-term and part-time workers regulations, and wages. He has advised widely on industrial relations matters and has in-depth knowledge of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992.
Michael also has extensive experience with the Equality Act 2010. He has acted on behalf of both claimants and respondents on all areas of discrimination law, including Equal Pay, direct discrimination, indirect discrimination, pregnancy and maternity discrimination, victimisation, and harassment. Michael has been instructed on Sheriff Court claims under the 2010 Act in relation to education, housing and public services.
Michael is frequently instructed in relation to judicial review.
Prior to calling to the bar, Michael had a 10-year career as a solicitor specialising in employment law and professional/healthcare discipline. He headed up a team designed to provide specialist legal services to Scotland’s two largest Trade Unions.
