David Hay KC has recently returned from attending an advocacy training course run by the General Bar Council of South Africa as one of four international guest trainers alongside a team of experienced senior-juniors, Senior Counsel and judges of the South African Bar and Bench. The course was for ‘Recently Admitted Juniors’ (1-4 years’ call) in the East Cape area and ran for three intensive days covering interim applications, case analysis, examination of witnesses, written and oral submissions, and appeals.
David said “I found this a hugely rewarding experience. As with the Faculty of Advocates’ advocacy training for Devils it is almost as demanding being a trainer as it is being a participant! I was struck by the warm welcome I was given by the training team, by the dedication and enthusiasm of the participating juniors (for many of whom English is a second language), and the skill and common approach to training shared amongst a team representing the jursidictions of Scotland, England, Zimbabwe and South Africa.”
