We are delighted to announce that Melanie Barbour and Antonia Welsh join the stable today after calling at the Bar.
Melanie practiced mainly as a local authority solicitor and is also a legal member of the Housing and Property Chamber of the First Tier Tribunal. She has valuable practical experience and knowledge across a wide range of our core areas of practice including property, mental health, adults with incapacity, licensing, adoption, permanency orders and child protection. She also brings a wealth of experience in and enthusiasm for planning matters which increases our strength in that area. Melanie’s devilmaster Kirsty Malcolm said, “I am delighted that Melanie will be joining us. Her past experience in key practice areas of the Stable will enhance our offering, and I am sure this will provide her with a great platform from which to build her career at the Bar.”

Antonia trained with Levy & McRae and Clyde & Co prior to commencing devilling. Her devilmaster, Rachel Shewan, said “Antonia has impressed throughout her period of devilling as being knowledgeable, hard working, enthusiastic and personable. She has a particular interest in family law and has already demonstrated an ability to provide reassurance and put clients at ease. Antonia will be a real asset to the stable.” Family law is not the only string in Toni’s bow; her other specialisms include public and administrative law, employment and professional discipline. She is also an enthusiastic organiser, communicator and user of social media and we are sure that she will become a well known voice for the stable in the future.

Given the current rules on social distancing, today’s calling has lacked the customary ceremony and festivities usually enjoyed by new advocates. We will celebrate this pivotal moment in their careers when circumstances allow but today we wish Melanie and Antonia well as they embark on their careers at the Bar.
