Westwater Advocates Medical Law Group has teamed up with Medico Legal Management and Ampersand Advocates to present a fascinating Clinical Negligence Conference on Wednesday October 9, 2013 at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

Top medical practitioners will be sharing their insights into the legal risks in their areas of practice. Advocates will consider negligence issues from both the pursuer and defender’s perspectives.

Professor Patrick O’Dwyer, Gastrointestinal Surgeon, will be considering Misdiagnosis and missed opportunities in cancer.

Dr Norman Wallace will give a talk on Medical Negligence from a GP’s perspective. A topic that will dovetail with a presentation by Ken Revie, of Westwater Advocates, on Failure by the GP to refer the patient to a Consultant.

Patrick Statham, Consultant Neurosurgeon, will deal with Medico-Legal aspects in spinal surgery.

Phil Stuart from Ampersand Advocates will consider the difficult and important issue of Causation in clinical negligence. 

The event will give an opportunity for delegates to hear Dr William Frame, consultant anaesthetist on Medico-Legal issues in Anaesthesia.

There will be a case law update from Vinit Khurana of Ampersand Advocates.

Recently returned from the inquiry into infection control at the Vale of Leven Hospital, Gordon Lamont of Westwater Advocates will speak authoritatively about Healthcare Associated Infection.

The day is to be rounded off by Mr Makarand K Oak, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, on Medical accidents, common mistakes, how they arise and what to look for.

The structure of the day is set up to allow the opportunity for lawyers and medics to tease out issues of common concern. The conference will be chaired by leading clinical negligence silk, David Stephenson QC. The fee for attendance, together with lunch, refreshments and course materials, is £250 plus VAT.

On Thursday 10 October members of Westwater Advocates will be involved in Day 2 of the conference which is dedicated to Personal Injury.
